Frequently asked questions

Questions hospitals ask before they switch.

The questions we are asked on every call, answered in the open — including the ones where the honest answer is that you may not need us yet.

Still deciding?

The shortest path is to try it.

Every question above has a caveat that depends on your own facility — how many departments, how the shift works, whether patients settle in full or in parts.

The demo workspace is populated and fully functional, so you can answer those questions against a realistic day rather than a brochure. If you would rather ask a person first, sign up and the team will reach out.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers, no hedging.

What is hospital management software?

Hospital management software is a system that runs the administrative and clinical work of a hospital or clinic in one place: patient records, appointments, consultations, laboratory orders, pharmacy stock, billing and staff access. MediLounge covers all of these in a single workspace so that a change made by the front desk is immediately visible to the doctor, the pharmacist and the accounts team.

What is the difference between an HMS and an EMR?

An EMR (electronic medical record) stores the clinical record for a patient — history, consultations, results and medication. An HMS (hospital management system) is broader: it includes the EMR and also runs scheduling, the walk-in queue, billing, invoices, pharmacy dispensing and staff roles. MediLounge is an HMS with the clinical record built in, so the two are never reconciled by hand.

Can MediLounge work for a small clinic as well as a large hospital?

Yes. The same system runs a single-room practice and a multi-department hospital. A small clinic typically registers patients, books appointments, records consultations, dispenses and bills — all of which are available from the first day. Departments, roles and staff invitations only become necessary as the team grows, and nothing needs to be reconfigured to add them later.

How long does it take to move off spreadsheets or an old system?

Most small and mid-sized facilities are running live the same day. There is no installation: you create a hospital account, add your departments and staff, and start registering patients. The practical question is not the software but the data — historical paper or spreadsheet records are usually entered as patients return rather than migrated in one pass.

Who can see what in MediLounge?

Access is role-based. Front desk, doctors and nurses, billing, pharmacy, laboratory and administrators each see only the screens and records their role needs. A receptionist cannot open clinical results, a pharmacist cannot rewrite a consultation, and every account belongs to exactly one hospital, so one facility's data is never visible to another.

Does MediLounge handle online payment?

Yes. Invoices can be settled online through Flutterwave, and the payment is verified against the provider before the invoice is marked paid. Cash and transfer payments are recorded through the same invoice, so the balance a patient sees is the same balance the accounts team sees.

Do patients need an app or an account?

No. Patients are registered and served by your team. MediLounge is the system your staff use, not a portal your patients have to sign up for, which keeps the front desk in control of the record and avoids asking patients to install anything.

Can one system serve several facilities?

Yes. Each hospital is its own tenant with its own patients, staff, departments and numbering, so a group can run several sites without their records ever mixing. That also means expanding to a second facility does not require reorganising the first.

Is patient data safe?

Every record belongs to exactly one hospital, and access is enforced by the API on every request rather than only by hiding buttons in the interface. Sessions are signed and httpOnly, so a script on the page cannot read a token, and staff access is role-based and revocable the moment somebody leaves.
